Good evidence helps a platform understand an impersonation report. It should show what happened without creating a second privacy problem.

Capture the public context

Record the impersonating profile's exact username, public URL, display name, profile image, biography, and the date and time you observed it. Capture examples of posts or messages that falsely claim to be you.

Take screenshots that include enough surrounding context to show where the content appeared. Also copy the public URL because images alone may not identify the account.

Keep an evidence log

A simple timeline is more useful than a folder of unexplained images. For each item, record:

  • the date and time, including your time zone;
  • the public account or content URL;
  • a short factual description;
  • the filename of the related screenshot;
  • the report or case number issued by the platform.

Keep original files unchanged. If you create a redacted version for sharing, retain it separately and label it clearly.

Redact before sharing

Remove unrelated email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, financial details, private conversations, and identity-document numbers. Do not crop away the username or other details needed to understand the report.

Never send passwords, authentication codes, backup codes, or active password-reset links. A legitimate adviser does not need them to assess impersonation evidence.

Report through official channels

Use the platform's own impersonation or identity-reporting form. Check the address carefully before uploading any identity document. Share only the fields the platform explicitly requires and review its privacy information first.

Avoid direct confrontation

Contacting the impersonator can alert them, trigger deletion of evidence, or escalate harassment. Preserve the public record first and use platform reporting tools. If the activity includes credible threats, stalking, financial fraud, or immediate danger, contact the appropriate authority or financial institution.

Bucurie Digital can help organise a defensive reporting plan, but only the platform controls its account and content decisions.
